hotslings baby carrier? Has anyone ever used the "hotslings" baby carrier? it's basically just a one piece little sling of fabric. I had the regular constructed baby byorn carrier with my son and it was useless, I'm only 5'1'' and I couldn't even see out over the top of it, let alone move or bend.
This seems like a much easier, simpler solution for baby number 2. But, is it worth the $35 for such a little thing.
Oh, and what size am I? it comes in 3, 4, or 5.
I'm normally (when I'm not 8months pregnant) in the 130-140lb range and 5'1'', does anybody know what size that is?
thanks!!
yea, sorry I know they have the sizing chart on the website but I'm 8 months pregnant so it's hard to get an idea of what my shoulder to hip measurement would be without the giant baby bump in the way. just a thought... replied: "For the same price, you can get the Moby Wrap, which can be used as a sling, or a front, back or side carrier. I found that after my baby was no longer newborn he did not want to be in the sling position. Also, this sling does not look very secure to me. I am exactly the same size as you, and I love the Moby Wrap. My son is 14 pounds now and I am still using it (although any front carrier is likely to hurt your back a little once your baby is this big). The only down side is that it takes some time to get used to putting it on, but I had it figured out and did not need the directions by the 4th or 5th time I used it. For awhile, the wrap was the only place my baby would nap, so I would be wearing it half the day and just going about my life with him in it."
Melissa S replied: "I haven't had my baby yet but ordered one and tried it out on a friends baby. For a new born it was actually a little hard to get her in and out. I assume with an older baby it might be easier. If you go to there web site they have directions on how to measure. You need to measure from hip to shoulder as well.
I also ordered a moby wrap. It looks complicated but I was surprised at how easy it was to use and it's versatile. If you baby only likes to be held chest to chest or facing out so he can look around. It's also one size fits all. I used the same friends baby in this one(3wks old). It turns out her baby hates to be held in the cradle position but loves chest to chest. It was so easy to get her in and out and she was very comfortable in it.
Hot sling sizing
I am having trouble with the moby wrap web site but here it is at a different web site.
I got mine off of ebay, free shipping for $40."
Snow Covered! replied: "You are probably a Size 3. Here is the sizing chart:
I tried one of these when my daughter was an infant but she hated being in it. I am thinking about trying one again now that she is older. I do love that it is small (fits in the diaper bag easily) and easy to get the baby in and out quickly."
Ah Kbee replied: "I'm 5'1" as well, and started out using a sling. Let me tell you this...it totally pulls on one shoulder when baby gets to be about 12-13 lbs and is a pain in the butt! My shoulder used to throb and I'd get really grumpy. I then started using a wrap, similar to a moby wrap. I didn't buy it though. I purchased 5 yards of stretch cotton and then cut it in half lengthwise. I instantly had 2 wraps. I checked out websites on how to use it and I was hooked. My son is 19 lbs and I still use the wrap and it's great! I walked around the mall for an hour yesterday with him in it and we were both happy and comfortable.
Just make your own! Seriously!"
BABIES ÜBER ALLES! replied: "I would _really_ recommend trying to get to a store that carries them and trying one on. I would've sworn I was a size three from their chart; went to the store, got "No, you're a size two," and found the size two fit perfectly... I have no idea what I weigh these days, but I'm 5'4" and a six in clothing. You might well be a 2, especially being on the shorter side. Just buy from a place with a good exchange policy if you can't go somewhere to try it on...
It's a nice little thing to whip out when you're at the supermarket or whatever, and some of the fabrics are quite nice." Hotslings baby carriers - ok to have them "tucked up"? I have one of those hotslings baby carriers and my son (4 months) sits upward, facing outwards. The problem is that they show you to cross their legs (indian style) and put them in the sling...his feet touch his stomach and he's curled into the fetal position. He loves it, and is comfortable because it's the only way I can get him to sleep but it just seems like the legs being "tucked up" would be detrimental to his development. Anyone know? Do your own thinking! replied: "This is _preferable_, to have them curled up froggy-style in the sling when they're little.
Think of how he was in the womb...."
Cloth on Bum, Breastmilk in Tum! replied: "Shouldn't be a problem - many websites will tell you to put a newborn in the sling that way. My daughter rode facing me in her sling like that until she got too wiggly."
Brand new to 2 under 2 replied: "my daughter was like that in her sling, and now at 16 months is running up a storm, her legs are fine :)" I have a question about Hotslings Baby Carriers sizing... can anyone help me out? I am trying to figure out what size to order and according to their size chart, I'm falling into both the 2 and 3 categories, so I don't know which to go with. I've heard that it's very important with these to get the right size for your body, but how do I know which is right? Does anyone have any experience with this brand who can give me some suggestions?
> maegs33 replied: "First of all, I have a Hotsling and I LOVE it.
It really is hard to say because even though your body might fit into either size, the size you prefer will be individual/depend on your body. If you are petite in proportions generally, I'd go with the small size. If you have a long torso or are bigger around in some ways, go with the larger size. If your breasts are proportionately large, you might want to go for the bigger size to allow for more room to nurse in the sling. If you can sew, I'd recommend the larger size: you can tailor it by bringing it in a half inch or inch if you find you need it to be tighter.
When baby is in the sling, their bum shouldn't be lower than your belly button. The sling might seem tight or small at first, but it stretches a little, and the baby should fit closely.
You might want to see if there are any store in your area that carry Hotslings, they might let you try before you buy.
A final idea, if you end up getting the wrong size, and the place where you bought it from will not allow exchanges, you can always sell it on eBay. Yeah, you might lost a couple bucks (about 5 off what you paid) but Hotslings are always for sale on there." |
